Castleon and surrounding countryside is great for walking and after a hard day on the hills we thought this would be good. It wasn't. Our pub accommodation was circa £50, yet we foolishly paid £18 to go in here. Don't waste your money:- there are no interesting formations.
If you have never been into a cave with jewels and stalagtites and stalagmites, then you are in for a treat. This Cavern provides some wonder and is definitely worth a visit, more so if you have children.
Informative one hour trip into the Peak Cavern. The guide was very good and enthusiastic with great info about rope making/history of the caves etc. Amusing to find out why the caves name had to change due to Queen Victorias visit! Not too claustrophobic - though be prepared to crouch down and walk at the limbago cave area (so if...

We visited during the school Easter Holidays and were expecting crowds but the whole of Castleton was only moderately busy! As a result we only had about a dozen people on our tour of the caves. The rope making demonstration at the start of the tour and the story of the small community that once lived in the mouth of...

Very interesting trip down the cave system, I thought I wouldn't be able to manage as I am claustrophic but Max the guide was very kind and helpful and just went in one step at a time, so glad I did, it was enthralling. The talk at the beginning about the rope makers was great and we got to take...

Visited peak cavern in one of the quieter times around Castleton, but tour guide was just as enthusiastic and charismatic as if there was a huge group of us. Very interactive and informative.
Peak Tavern aka The Devils [--] is the UKs largest naturally formed cavern and was once home to a local rope making industry. The tour of the cavern and linked caves starts with an explanation of the industrial history of the cave and a rope-making demonstration. The tour then heads into the cave system proper. The system itself is massive...

Bought family ticket which was rather expensive however the tour guide Max was great and kept us all enthral led.cavern itself was spectacular and kids loved the fact that it had a history, retold wonderfully by our guide. A good hour well spent and would actually go again despite the price!
If your tour guide is Max then you're in for a treat. He was passionate and knowledgeable which was exactly what we expected. Max mentioned he had caved and caverned around the world for 15 years and his enthusiasm was infectious. Thanks for an inspiring trip.
