The central fells are one of the most beautiful places on Earth. A walker's paradise... an artist's paradise, a wildlife lover's, a climber's, child's, stress head's, lovers, poet's, bride and groom's, ancient historian's and ornithologist's paradise. With pure mountain streams you can drink your fill safely from and lakes that touch you with tranquility. With myriad mountain walks through and... More

All the lakes and mountains are within a short drive of each other and each one is quite different. If you want to feel away from it all visit Ennerdale or Wastwater. These are good places for the serious hiker. Keswick on Lake Derwentwater has plenty of shops and for those who only want a short walk go to the lakeside... More

We did two walks - the first in the Newlands Valley and the following day round Buttermere Lake. They were both good locations and suitable for all grades of walks to suit everyone. There is a bus which goes from outside the hotel to Buttermere on which you can use your travel pass if you have one after 9.30a.m.

Our final Wainwright for the Central Fells and even though it was cloudy, the views were spectacular. Luckily it had been dry so we didn't have the "soft going" that is familiar in this area.

Wonderful walks with spectacular views where you can still get away from the crowds if you are prepared to walk off the beaten track away from mainstream tourist routes

Lots of choices of walks for all levels of ability. Not at all crowded when you get out of the towns and in general the paths are well marked.
