Always a must visit when in the area, have been going here since 1978 and it still thrills me. Large Steam Loco's blasting away up a mountain, what more can you say? The whole system traverses some of the most scenic parts of this area, Brocken is a must do, beer and cake at the highest point in Northern Germany.

The narrow gauge trains of the Harz offer an amazing opportunity to relive the days of the steam train with all its glory. I took this ride several times from Wernigerode to the top of the Broken Mountain. The best time to visit is when the weather is good up on the top of mountain. (aim for days where the... More

A 140km network of narrow gauge steam railways, with steam trains operating every day of the year - excellent for not just the railway enthusiast. Trains link Quedlinburg, Nordhausen and Wernigerode, together with some other branch lines and the amzing climb up to the 1125metre high Brocken. If you are going to the Brocken travel early as the trains do... More

We enjoyed our journey to the summit of the Brocken. The last time we visited we were knee deep in snow so it was nice to visit on a nice clear day as the view from the top is very good. The journey by steam train takes just under 2 hours and costs around 30 euros. We took the first... More

Nice steam train with even nicer views from the top. Wernigerode-Drei Annen Hohne-Brocken connection seems okay, and also at other points they did their utmost to keep the connections. Outbound even in Eisfelder Talmuehle a nice „synchronised“ departure of two trains on parallel tracks, see picture. But not all connections promised in the timetable work, and if not customer service... More

Liked to convenience of traveling to the Broken from Werningerode. Would recommend going early as the train does get busy and people are standing, which is no fun for a 1 1/2 hour trip. Did not get the fact of selling alcohol on the train, brought around by the conductor, at 9am, but hey: its another country! A must for... More

over 140 km of track, connecting key otowns from Wernigerode to Quelinburg via Nordhausen. Highlight of the railway (literally) is the Brocken Mountain - well worth taking the time to visit.

What is there to dislike? More locos than you can shake a stick at, with unlimited access to the yard at Wernigerode whilst watching the engines being put to bed, 1m80 of snow on Brocken, inclines of 1in 40... steam.doesn't get any better than this!

This is the first time I have visited the Harz Mountains for over 10 years and the 3ft (1 metre) gauge steam railway is by far the best way to see it. With a steep climb to the first main station at Drei Annen Hohne, here trains also meet from Nortdhousen & Brocken. The train the continues to the top... More
