Is it the maze of pathways winding through deep gulleys of moss covered rocks, the twisted roots of the Yew trees or the bridges, ‘lookouts’ and features to find on your way round? Puzzlewood is enchanting; it has an atmosphere quite unlike any other woodland. Here you can imagine that you are in a fantasy film, and that fantastic creatures lurk round every corner. Puzzlewood is used for Merlin, Dr Who and recently for a new Warner Bros movie called Jack the Giant Killer (release date June 2012).Also onsite are farm animals, willow maze, indoor maze, playground, picnic tables, café and gift shop « less

We were recommended to visit Puzzlewood by the staff at our hotel as they said our kids, (boys 6 &3) would love it...and they did! We arrived at 10.30 when it was very quiet and staye duntil 3.30 because we were having so much fun. First we visited the woodlands where we explored the moss covered ravines, weird tree structures,... More

We only had one day in the Forest of Dean area, so picked Puzzlewood for our six year old; he loved the Easter bunny trail and we all liked the wood itself, but looking at the map, next time I'd go for a forest walk - there are plenty around! Free, too... Our son did love the hay barn (he... More

My kids (2 and 4) and mummy and daddy loved Puzzlewood. It is great fun and we have some great photos. Nice and muddy too, so the kids got their way in the end and we all got a bit messy! The playground and animals were nice too. Overall a really nice place to visit. We've visited some real rubbish... More

We have been twice and its much better if you go early, when its quiet to enjoy the atmosphere of the woods properly. Don't attempt it if your child needs a pushchair (unless you have a strong back!). More

Yes a very strange, weird place but well worth a visit. Shame it doesn t open very early ie 6 am would be very spooky with early morning mist. Doesn t matter if the weather is a bit off either as long as you wear the right clothes. More

I would highly recommend visiting Puzzlewood. It is a private site, not part of the open Forest of Dean, and you do have to pay a small fee to go in. If you like mossy, gnarled trees & winding pathways hidden behind boulders..... you will love this. It is an amazing place. We took 2 hours to explore all the... More

We decided to take a short break and stay in The Puzzlewood Cottage this Easter holiday. We were not disappointed, the cottage itself was comfortable, well equipped, and really excellent value. From the time that we arrived we felt most welcome and had a really relaxing break. The really amazing thing about staying in the cottage is the fact that... More

We visited with both small children and teenagers and found that there was something for all ages here. Not cheap to get in but then a really good area of natural landscape to explore that is really different to most other places. If you are interested in geology/geography/the natural landscape you will enjoy this. Apparently Tolkein loved this place and... More
