We enjoyed the easter egg hunt and the older children really enjoyued going down the mine. Unfortunatly for health and safety reasons small children arn't permitted into the mine, so were going back next year when the youngest can go down the mine and learn more about the local industries of the past. All in all a great day out. Excellent value what with it being free! You do pay £2 refundable 'check' for the underground tour but for 90 minutes in the mine it is well worth the money. The tour is very informative, amusing and really gives you a feel of what it was like to be a miner. The other... More

The trip was a little while ago, but we took a friend along who was here from Holland so the group was a Yorkshire lass with mining relatives and one lad from Scotland and one from Amsterdam. All enjoyed and had a great day out. More

The museum is free to enter and has a plethora of interesting information, including film shows, static and pictoral displays as well as accessto the former stables, control room, shower block etc. The main attraction, however, is the underground tour. You descend 250 metres with a former miner, using the original lift, and within the former seams there is a... More

Not many people get the chance to go down a real coal deep-mine for pleasure, but this place gives you an amazing 1.5 hours underground. A genuine national treasure More
