It is a large open air museum with different kinds of houses from different parts of Norway and different times. Very interesting place near the Viking ship museum.

The open-air museum is quite large and contains enough classical wooden Norwegian buildings to satiate even the most enthusiastic. The wooden church is definitely one of the highlights here, though the indoor Sami exhibit and "Old Town" Oslo are both nice as well. The gift shop here is maybe the best in Oslo if you're looking for "Norwegian" souvenirs.

It was a sunny day which would be important when going around this 'village'. There are many examples of Norwegian wooden buildings and although not all can be viewed from the inside, enough can be entered to give a feel of 'the old days'. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

This was a great museum with a lot to see so be sure to allow lots of time. Very good facilities, cafe, loos all fine. You really feel as if you are in the reconstructed villages and town houses. They could do with actually selling things in the delicatessen and allowing people to go into more of the rural houses... More

Unbelievable. If you remember the Vikings on TV, this is a must see. See how the Norsemen lived over 1000 years ago. The buildings, especially the Stave church is the highlight of this stop.

We were so lucky that it was a sunny day and we could walk outside to see the fantastic wooden houses. Brilliant to be able to see them, but not all of them were open enough to look around. The cafe is great - i had a waffle with jam and sour cream, yum, and my friend had apple cake.... More

An open air museum always gives kids the opportunity to run around while learning something at the same time. This museum gives a nice impression of farming as well as 'city' life in Norway over time. In some areas you'll find actors to make it a real life experience. Nice cafe on side. Museum located on Bygdoy peninsula (next to... More

Very interesting open air museum. The concept was new to me - houses / buildings from different regions and times. I saw a HUGE pig at the "farm house". It was as big as a hippo - no jokes!!!

It's an amazing place, with old constructions from different norwegian areas, including a stave church. I visited the museum in June, there were actors dressed like in the old days and some farm animals, including the fjording horse. It's even possible to buy old style soaps in the old shop. You really see how people lived in the past. You... More
