The Tripadvisor map locates this church in Vienna! The quality of the Tripadvisor information/feedback environment is significantly lower than one would expect from a reputable player. Worst is that tripadvisor in most cases doesn't offer any simple way to make it attentive that the information they pass is wrong. Tripadvisor itself doesn't deserve more than a 3.5/5 ...

Very late baroque interior with a fantastic organ! If you are very lucky you can attend a formal organ concert or even listen to the organist practice during an afternoon when you want a quiet place to rest and get away from the crowds.

The gloomy structure of this original Romanesque church was opened by a bright, light Gothic choir--what an experience when you enter through the darkish nave and see the high, bright altar section! Do have a look at the Romanesque stair leading up to the pulpit--the lion is "propped up" by a man lying under its belly, almost unique in the... More

This church is a mix of Romanesque, Baroque and Gothic architecture. It possesses statues and objects of fine art, but it also exudes a quiet peacefulness within its walls. The most important object in the church is the statue of the "Madonna" by Pacher dated 1495 and is the center-piece of the main altar. It is well worth a short... More

Franziskanerkirche is a grand, large church of great beauty in a quiet coener of the old city. It is the venue for many wonderful concerts.

This is the favorite of the churches visited in Salzburg. The church is large enough without being imposing, and there is much to see with clusters of elaborate art. Spent about half an hour here, examining the high altar and chapels, and gazing at the vaulted ceiling. Franziskanerkirche provides an interesting experience because one goes through the Baroque style entrance... More

Like: Marble columns and artwork Liked not so much: Too much gold, but still it is beautiful. We did not have much time to explore as we were only in Salzburg overnight.

Definitely worth visiting unless you have already seen enough ancient cathedrals. It has some unique characteristics though.

Go there on a late afternoon. With less light you can feel the magic of this purely Gothic church, home of the Franziskaner monks. Not a place filled of all the gold in the catholic world as other churches but filled with a special magic. There are also organ concerts from time to time. Interesting place to visit if you... More
