The fortress dominates the city & looks spectacular from the ground. It's worth buying the combined funicular & fortress ticket as it's a very steep walk to the top especially on a hot day, as it was the day we went. On a clear day the views are fantastic stretching for miles. Within the fortress there is a lot to... More

The fortress is a symbol of the city so you can’t miss it. I enjoyed very much the visit to the fortress. I used the funicular so it was very easy to reach the top. There you have a nice museum with the military history of Austria, especially the First World War, and other museum with marionettes (that one I... More

The view was spectacular at several points to look across the old town and back behind the fortress. The average part was the rest of the visit. Lacked direction and information and there really wasn't anyone around to ask. Other visitors were confused also.

After 2 weeks of traveling, I must admit that my energy level started going down. So, I debated if I should make the day trip to Salzburg or not. Not going would have been a big mistake!!! The city is beautiful and the fortress overlooking it makes it even more memorable. It is a must see in Salzburg. The views... More

A very pleasant walk across town to reach the tram up to the higher areas. The purchase of a 'Salzburg card' is highly recommended so that many attractions in and around Salzburg can be enjoyed. The views from the high towers are superb, particularly when the weather is sunny which we were blessed with. Plenty of interesting artifacts/paintings and history... More

Phew! What a hike! Getting up to the fortress above Salzburg isn't a long walk, but it's certainly steep! You can take the tram directly up to the fortress, which I might recommend as the walk doesn't give any particularly interesting sights, it's just a workout for your calf muscles! The Fortress itself is very interesting and very large, definitely... More

My wife and I spent about 5 hours looking round the fort today. We rode up on the railway and had morning coffee in the Panorama restaurant and the views were outstanding. We then went around all the external attractions as the weather was bright before looking around the inside of the fort on the audio tour, the fort museum,... More

The walk/stair climbing was a long way up, and the heat and humidity didn't help. We decided to walk up instead of paying 11 euro per person for the tram up, you still have to pay at the gate at the top, but its 6 euros. The views were really nice, we got some really nice photos of the city... More

This was a nice evening out. It would have been better had the temperature not been extremely hot. The dinner was ok but beverages were limited. The concert was very good and on a cooler day it would have been more enjoyable. If you chose to do this, make sure you get the reserve seating. These seats are better than... More

On a recent visit to Salzbury, ths particular attraction was the biggest disappointment. We used our Salzburg Card, so there was nothing to pay for either the funicular or entry, so that was a bonus. The attraction was not well sign-posted, nonetheless we had no problem finding it. The trip on the funicular was very brief and when we got... More
