Yes Id would say go and see but right now ( summer 2013) there's nothing much on view as renovation is happening, a shame as I was fascinated after going to the other history attractions that talked about it.

Currently being lovingly restored, future uses include a Military History Museum, a research centre and a public ramparts walk. A Military History Museum is currently available to visitors in Vendome Bastions, c. 200m away from St Elmo's main entrances. On your way, glimpse at St Lazarus gun emplacement, a gun powder magazine and military barracks.

Unfortunately, like too much of Valetta is has been allowed to become a building site and an eyesore.
Lots of interest here , displays of weaponry , big guns , many displays to visit but time also to wander around. Soldiers interesting to talk to ,and not too busy to answer your questions , small cafe to rest and refresh .Was good .
a beutiful jem in the tip of valletta, so rich with history and so much to see hear and go round about it. pity it was left to deteriorate to such a state. now it is currently under renovation, so once you are on the island this true wonder and jem is sure worth a visit.
Really spectacular with a very interesting history well related by an official guide. Not seen anything to match it anywhere else.
No entrance to the actual fort for sightseeing and nowhere on the city side to even get a good view of the fort. Maybe after the restoration work is complete and access is improved.
I'm not much into historic military bases (which is what this is), but appreciate the historic importance of the story of the Knights' story with regard to the history of Malta. The place is beautiful and quiet now, in spite of its former military function, and worth a stop if only for a shady bit of rest on this hot...
