The Island Lesbos has so much to offer, on many levels. The petrified forest is an unique spot, pretty hot in the summer (don't forget to take some bottles of water and sun glasses with you) but worth to pay a visit. It's not a large area but the enviroment is beautiful. The petrified trees looks great, especially when you... More

A lot of people on our trip expected to see trees petrified as you would in Pompeii but these are marbleised stone like stumps on the ground mostly protected by railings So difficult in the heat as there is no shade

Unique petrified forest in the world. Unequaled beauty. Select a less hot day to visit it and generally this area because there are no trees and it is very hot place. Extremely recommended. Don't miss the opportunity.

It is best to visit this place on a cooler or cloudy day because as everyone has stated, there is nothing to keep you in the shade. The place provides a short tour - 1 hour or longer tours for over 2 hours depending on how much you want to walk. All tours are self-guided, but the little booklets help... More

Been here in September and ewen then it was rather hot early in the morning, no shades so it must be really extreme. There are no information signs what so ever, except a number next to each object, apperantly it is possible to buy a guide book, i would have liked some information on the objects but i didnt feel... If you like the natural world, this place is a must to visit. Its only 2 euros per person to go in and it can take several hours if you decide to go around the whole valley! The best time of day to go during the Summer months is first thing in the morning. There is no shade there at... More

It is a long journey, but with beautiful scenery all the way. Nothing can prepare you for the sudden change of landscape from lush greenery everywhere to barren mountainous scrub land, the result of the terrible volcanic events. The petrified forest is not for anyone with mobility issues as to get the best out of it you have to walk... More
