If in Maderia you just have to visit Blandys Wine Lodge! There are three tours on offer, 30 mins, 45 mins and the 1 hour tour, each offers a little more so depending on what time you have you select the tour that suits you. The guide is very good and knows her history of Blandys as you would expect... More

Visited Blandys Wine lodge in April 2013, booked it through the Internet, the history and the character of the lodge is wonderful. Being introduced to the history of the company and the story of the three families that were involved at the time were fascinating. The tour of the winery was very informative different grapes etc, the way that they... More

For only 5 euros you can take a 5 minute tour of the lodge, including the wine cellars and a detailed explanation of what happens with the wine and how it matures. It also includes wine tasting! Great attraction in the centre of funchal, worth doing.

A stop by this winery was included in a tour I was on from our cruise ship. It was very crowded when we got there. We were given a bit of a talk on the making of the wine by one of the staff members but, to tell the truth, it didn't stick with me. The wine was another story... More

If you are a wine lover - this is a must. Get yourself a guide tour with a wine tasting because the whole history of that place is very interesting and wine is very good quality. You can purchase a wine after a tour. My tip - don't go for a sweet one as it is too heavy.

We did receive differing information for the front desk with regard to time and price of the English tour, which was not a good start. Cleared signposting and desk staff would have helped. However, the tour was detailed enough, the group a little large but this was not an issue. The history and the processes used were fully explained and... More

Of all the things to do in Funchal this is one of the best. Take a guided tour of Blandy's Wine Lodge and you will discover how the famous Madeira wine is made (in fact very similar to how the Spanish make Sherry). Our young female guide was very good and made our visit most enjoyable. At the end of... More

My wife and I were fortunate enough to arrive at exactly the right time when the guide was about to take a group of 6 British people on the tour. She spoke superb English. For 5 Euro's 50 each we had a fantastic hour long tour of the factory with the full story of it's British history right up to... More

Great place, lots of interest, lots to learn and lots to taste, what more could you ask when you do not have to drive anywhere? Each time we go to Madiira we choose another Madeira wine to try and as yet have not been disappointed.
