The monastery is incredible, the monuments interesting, and the custard tarts a must! Jump on a no 15 tram as early as you can, as they get very crowded.

Belem is a great little area just out of the centre of Lisbon - take the 15 tram or 714/726 bus from any of the maon squares to reach it in about 15 minutes but be warned that the trams get very busy and crowded. I would recommend visiting the area and stopping off for one of their famous cakes...

You can reach Belem on public transportation by changing from subway to rail at the Cais do Sodrè station on Lisbon Metro's Green Line (Linha Verde). The roundtrip ticket costs 3 Euro and trains normally run at 20-minute intervals. Unfortunately, the train stops half a mile (800 meters) from the marble monument known as Padrão dos Descobrimentos (dedicated to Portuguese...

The cloisters in the Jeronimos monastry are the finest I have seen. The Jeronimos church is interesting and the Belem tower (not really high) is nice from the outside. In my opinion, it is not worse going into the tower and climbing it.
It is a must to see. Great architecture and you can visit inside and outside and you can climb to the roof. It is worth to spend the time and if it is a sunny day, you'll have nice pictures!
Located at estuary of Tagus river. Old building that looks unique. Save at least 1 hour for it. Take a lot of pictures. Enjoy. Very crowded on weekends.
Not bad place, but there is not much to see: museum, small tower, garden..The place is very crowded. One thing you shouldn`t miss- Belem pastry
Just a short walk from the Discoveries Monument, the Tower is a must. Can be difficult walking up and down the narrow, winding staircase with so many people visiting at the same time. Not too much to see when climbing higher so don't feel bad if you can't do it.
We were on a tour with a large tour group and this was the first stop. The tour guide suggested 20 minutes for photos and a quick look. She was insane!!!!!! We ditched the tour (wasting £120) and stayed and were so glad we did. Amazing to see this place and picture how it was used over 700 years ago....

The Tower at Belem was a surprise! I is bigger than it looks and has some great views from the top. I took a picture of one of the balcony/terrace stonework, and then a week later saw the exact same picture on the cover of a travel magazine. Beautiful stonework and architecture. Easy tram ride from Lisbon for just a...
