Chiado has his own life inside Lisbon city. You will find lovely restaurants, hostels, hotels with amazing charm. During night you will find lots of bars open late, besides some gourmet shops or wine bars, where you can delight with the portuguese wines. Lots of action in the street with performers.

The ambient is very friendly with nice shops in the old buildings, and with the street performers. You can see the old Lisbon architecture and visit the café where Fernando Pessoa, an estimed writer, spent its time.

Loved the atmosphere, felt like being in Covent Garden in London or Soho Mahattan. Great shops, and close to Bairro Alto for restaurants and bars. Rossio good for entertainment.

Chiado metro is next door to the Cafe Brasiliana, one of the city's oldest and most popular. It is also on the route of the city's most scenic tram 28 and has lots of interesting shops, bars and restaurants. Many of the shops are too posh to put price stickers on the merchandise, but this is by no means as... More

Bertrand bookshop is very old and fabulous to wander through; if you love books that is. Brasileiria coffee shop is just OK...over rated, with lots of street activity, buskers etc outside. The two churches nearby are very beautiful and worth a visit.

We loved this area of Lisbon. Lots of people, lots of noise, lots of everything. The squares are surrounded with shops and eating places.

It was a pleasant walk around there, with beautiful fountains and lights, choice of bars, some with live music going on. Worth going for at least a little half hour to get the feel. Beware of the guys selling drugs, though, if you have kids but other than that, just say no and they leave you in peace.

Lots of fun sights, bars, sidewalk cafe's, busy at night. Nice, but the food is overwhelmingly similar from sidewalk restaurant to sidewalk restaurant. Go a little further uphill to Alto Bairrio and you'll find better prepared and selection of food in quieter alleys.

Plenty of nightlife and restaurants. We went (twice) to U Chiada the Trendy Bar and Restaurant. Don't be put off by its name! The food and service are excellent. We had their set menu of 5 courses (38 Euros) which is a 'surprise' and changes each night. Each course was explained and beautifully presented. This place reopened in September 2012... More

So you want to feel as if you live in Lisbon, this might just do the trick. The shopping around the streets is great and the coffee shops around Hotel Borges are very charming and reminiscent of the old days of Lisbon. There is usually music in the air in the streets during the day while the bars in the... More
