This is a must to see when visiting Siena. Despite the popularity and crowds, it is well worth the effort. Everything has ornamental detail on it. Get the iPad like tour. It explains the parts of the church in detail. Make sure you see the museum as well. Be patient and wait for the timed access to the rooftop view... More

After touring the cathedral, there is an option to see "the best views in Siena" but there was a bit of a line. It was worth the wait - gorgeous views of the brown tile roofs, Piazza Del Campo and surrounding hills.

Not only was the Duomo magnificent, be sure to see the library about half way up on the left side. A truly gothic work of art--the best in Italy.

Go to the Music Library - the illuminated manuscripts are out of this world. We visited a myriad of churches and other cathedrals (including St Peter's in Rome) and this place stands out.

We normally don't do 'churches' but this is an amazing piece of architecture worth making an exception for.
