This museum offers 3 rooms basically. The first room is the council's room, where Dante Alighieri (author of the divine comedy) held an apparently famous speech. This room has a nice ceiling, a bust of Dante and some religious art from the fourteenth century.

You should make this the first place you stop when you visit San Gimignano. It has a model of SG as it appeared in the 1400's and you get a great overview of its history. We had a private guide who was very knowlegeable. It's rather hard to find and not well advertised or signed.
We just returned from this beautiful town and found that walking through it was relaxing and interesting even though it was the height of tourist season. The climb to the top was worth it as the views and picture taking possibilities are fantastic. There are many shops albeit some too touristy for us and good restaurants.
Exit the Information Centre in the Piazza Duomo and turn left where there are steps up one of the remaining towers of San Gimignano. The entrance to Torre Grossa is situated at the top of the steps on the left hand side of Piazza del Duomo. It opens at 0930. Make it a priority to go early and enjoy the serenity and breath taking views before the bus parties start arriving after 1000.
