This is walkway from the Uffzi to Ponte Vecchio and Pettit Palace. It follows the river with the Medici Gallery on the side. The Gallery was under construction so we couldn't take it. The walk was beautiful with many shops along its sides. The buidling along the river and very old with many being in families for generations

This corridor was designed to allow the Medici to get from Palazzo Vecchio, the official government seat, to the Palazzo Pitti on the other side of the Arno, unseen. It was also an escape route in case political strife erupted! It runs along the Arno within the Uffizi, and then above the Ponte Vecchio shops to the Pitti Palace. It’s not worth paying extra to see a hallway when it can be admired externally for free.

The corridor is located beside the Ponte Vecchio the famous bridge in Florence. Worth to check it out and a nice place to enjoy River Arno for a quick stop.

Please be aware that the Vasari Corridor that you are paying for is NOT a walk through the corridor but rather a meander outside which you could see yourself with a tiny bit of research. We met a guide at the appointed time and started to walk through the square but when we queried when we were going through the corridor we were informed that the actual corridor was closed for renovation work until 2020! One couple on the tour immediately left and although we continued on felt that we had been sold something that we were not actually being able to experience. This so called Vasari Corridor experience is l feel being sold under false pretences so beware.

The elevated closed passage, designed by Giorgio Vasari in the 16th century, connects the Palazzo Vecchio and Palazzo Pitti. It was built to enable the Duke Cosimo I to walk from his home to the office without a contact with the public. It is an almost kilometer long passageway, with an extraordinary collection of paintings inside.

Do yourself and your family a favor and get off the usual tourist paths in Florence! Include tours of the Palazzo Vecchio Secret Rooms and, especially interesting, The Vasari Corridor which takes you from the Palazzo Vecchio to the Pitti Palace. The walls covered in portraits along the entire route. Only a limited number of visitors are permitted inside the Corridor at any given time, so you must make advance arrangements. Worth doing!

This was mentioned in our guided tour as the building they joined together by way of the walkway built between the two buildings. This was part of the overall tour guide experience.
