Haveing seen photos and film of David all my life, my anticipation at the prospect of seeing the statue of David in Florence was "OK, lets see it and I can mark it off my list". It wasn't a "must see". I was wrong!
I was completely unprepared for the beauty of this masterpiece. It literally took my breath away....

A must see and the Accademia worth the visit too.
I remember studying Michelangelo at school and to see the original in real lifeis truly amazing.
The gallery is interesting with both modern and famous artists.

Alas I have seen this statue many times before in images and museums thus not a novelty anymore but it was nice to see it in it's location in Piazza della Signoria. Apparently the reason that the head and hands are disproportionate with the body id due to the fact that more than one artist worked on it but if...

Top site in Florence. Be sure to book ahead, or ask your hotel to do so for you. Ours (Hotel Dali) booked for free. Or, buy the Florence Card online, and skip all the lines for any attraction covered.

Once you'd heard 'no photo' from the security guards (2 very aggressive older gents) about 50 times and watching other tourists playing cat & mouse with the security trying to take a pic you see the colossal David, he definitely lives up to his reputation!
