Agree with the other reviews, if you are fit and able you can go down to the canyon via public access which is just down the road from the main car park. Its quite a steep descent and ascent on return down steps. From here you can take a steady paddle (heed the warnings on the signs) to the lovely... More

The Gorge have been axcavated by the river Alcantara ("the river" in arabic) through basalt, which is a special kind of lava. I advise you not to use the expensive lift, but to use the free entrance with stairs, which is at left just before a U turn to the right, and a bridge over the old railway, when going up... More

Stopped here on an etna tour. if you want to walk down you have to go out the gate, turn left and walk about 100 metres up the road. Staff not helpful with directions. wroth the walk but not the 8 euros to use the lift. The gorge itself is pretty but not particularly deep.

This is a very beautiful place to visit, and can be done in just a few hours (including the drive from Naxos)

I read the reviews before going here and must agree that it is over priced and that the free access point is the way to go. We did the body surfing option and found although it was fun it was too expensive and we were not able to actually go up far enough into the gorge. We basically got to... More

My husband and I visited the gorge after a trip to Mount Etna, on our way back to Taormina. We paid 8 euro to get in each, but thought it would be worth it. Access to the gorge is by lift or stairs, we took the former. The gorge is pretty with clear water running through, which is refreshing but... More

Very short, but beautiful walking tour beside the river, looking down on it. The reward that you get after it - a dip in the cold river. Relaxes you right away.

the alcantara gorge is one of the only rivers they have in sicily. we went there with a local who told us we gonna spend the day at a "river"...little did we know! if you are there on your own then take the public entrance to the canyon. if you want to be a bit adventurous then find a path... More

You might want to take the free entrance 150 m. west of main entrance. 220 steps down you will meet a great view. Rocky formation looks almost fake, but it's just the water making them smooth and shiny. Small waterfalls makes it look romantic, beautiful and bringing in adventure. You can scale the waterfalls. Don't spend money on body surfing,... More

I, like another reviewer, was aware you could go further up the road and visit the gorge without paying but didn't, inaccurately guessing if you paid it may be a better view. Nope. The rocks formations were interesting and the water nice and cool for a quick dip to cool off. However, it may be because I've lived in the... More
