Quiet, no crowds, nice basilica. Take the lift to the top of the campanile and get great pictures of Venice. More

Take the time to visit San Giorgio and go up the bell tower. The location is serene, and soak up all that the location has to offer. More

It takes a little effort to get across the lagoon to this church, but the views from the Bell Tower are amazing. You can see St. Mark's Square, up the Grand Canal, the coast of the Lagoon, and many of the outlying islands. There was a classic car show going on at the plaza in front of the church. Incidentally,... More

We popped over to the island on the ferry (€4) and really enjoyed the magnificent views back over to Venice, a great sight over the Americas cup racing in the foreground. The only problem if you are up the bell tower on the hour the bells are certainly loud. The church itself was also well worth a quick look around. More

Pay 5 euros to get the elevator to the belfry and see all of Venice from up there. Quiet, lovely church on its own island. No services in May, and no bathroom. The bar was not open yet. More

We went to the camponile on San Giorgio Maggiore as an alternative to that in St Mark's. I think it offers a better view of St Marks itself plus across the canal at the Salute and across the laguna to the Lido. Also good value for only 5 euros. Be warned though we were at the top at 3pm when... More

The trip to San Giorgio Maggiore by vaporetto is a kick in itself. The church is beautiful, inside and out, with clean, unobstructed lines that contrast with the baroque excess of other Venetian churches. The views from the top of the campanile, in all directions, were just stunning. Well worth the price, and every minute we spent there. One of... More
