We popped over to the island on the ferry (€4) and really enjoyed the magnificent views back over to Venice, a great sight over the Americas cup racing in the foreground. The only problem if you are up the bell tower on the hour the bells are certainly loud. The church itself was also well worth a quick look around. More

Pay 5 euros to get the elevator to the belfry and see all of Venice from up there. Quiet, lovely church on its own island. No services in May, and no bathroom. The bar was not open yet. More

We went to the camponile on San Giorgio Maggiore as an alternative to that in St Mark's.
