For a start, you have to remove your back pack and take it to a storage room. It's a pain. The place was pretty impressive, but every direction we turned someone was trying to extract some money from us.

The best expression of the venician's love for beauty!!! The statues of the horses up at the roof are uniqe and all the view is marvelous!!
The exterior of the Basilica is very impressive, however the 'golden' interior is very difficult to appreciate as the lighting is extremely low. It does not take long to see so it is still worth a visit.
When I was a child at school, I remember how my teacher highlighted the importance of Venice as a crossing point or a gateway between the Mediterranean world/ Western Europe and the far East that started from the modern Turkey up to China. only saw the exterior....could not go in with backpack....they wanted to send us somewhere to bring them that was quite a distance and we were already tired...but the outside was so beautiful next to the water and the St-Marco square. the history...you really have to think about it and let it sink in!!!

Book tickets before you go - only 1.5 euros and saves queuing. You have...

What can you say about this incredible building that hasn't already been written? It is a breathtaking treasure of Byzantine art and architecture covered internally with a magnificent collection of mosaics that would take a lifetime to fully appreciate.
The Pala d'Oro is well worth visiting and it takes you close to the tomb of St Mark too. The Loggia...
