We drove up to Rifugio Auronzo, where you park your car - the last part is a very expensive toll road (around 20€ from memory) but it's definitely worth it. I recommend getting to the parking area early in summer to be sure you get a parking space!

This is the famous Dolomites attraction, and deservedly so. It is very dramatic. We visited in June. The road up is twisty turny and narrow, but still used by coaches. Not really worse than other areas of the Dolomites though. Plenty of parking is available.

We had visited Cortina d'Ampesso in 2008, but did not have time to go up to the Tre Cime.This summer while we were vacationing in Lignano, we decided to take a two days trip there. We took a train (Trenitalia) from Venezia-Mestre and arrived at Calalzo, where the train services end. Outside of the rail station there are busses waiting...
