Lake Orta is what in Italian lake should be, especially when you stay in Orta San Giulio. This is a peaceful little lake, and the village is charming beyond words. Avoid the crowds and the big resorts of the other lakes.

Orta is one of the most beautiful of the lakes, a real gem. Although on the tourist trail it is easy to find quiet areas. I would still like to complete the walk up the hill (stations) from San Giuglio, which it was a little too hot for. This is just out of the town and is perfectly quiet and...

Beautiful lake and town. Small and charming - not overly touristic or commercial. Great square where people gather next to the water and cafes. The best of the Italian lakes in my opinion - I hope it will retain its unspoilt charm forever!

Fantastic, quiet, relaxing and a hidden jewel. We stayed 3 nights as we travelled around the lakes. Most people travel in for the day from lake Maggiore. Visited the Alessi factory shop whilst there and bought great buys and much reduced prices

It's not only one of the most romantic and beautiful lakes of northern Italy. It's also the one with the cleanest water. In summertime you can swim in one of the many beaches ariound the lake.
If you liked Orta, try to visit some other places around, like Pella, or Madonna del Sasso.

I prefer it to Lago Maggiore, it's bigger sister: Orta San Giulio is a...

Beautiful little town. A few very good restaurants. Tranquil. Terrific cycling around the lake and boating on the lake. I use it as a homebase in the area.
