There used to be dozens of towers like that in Bologna in the 16th century. Families did use to go on massive ego trips in those days! It's more spectacular than the towers in Dubai but the maintenance isn't as good and the church behind is in bad shape. I hope they'll renovate it.

very interesting building. my step counter counted approx 1200 steps both ways. the event was easier than expected. the view is of course great from the top. recommended

Torre Degli Assinelli only 3 euro for a doable stair climb to the top. Take pictures in some of the holes in the tower. Then grab a ton I shots of the city from above.

480+ steps but great views. Stairs are a little narrow & steep but just take your time & you will get there, eventually.
