Very pretty here. I loved the monument it is amazing to think that people built these beautiful structures!
In a city completely immersed in beautiful sculptures, buildings, fountains, and parks, you don't want to miss the statue dedicated to Alexander VII. It is particularly dramatic at night, when illuminated by flood lamps.
This is an interesting grouping of sculptures by Bernini with different colors of marble. Be sure to find it amidst all the other works of art in this beautiful basilica.
I am a fan of Bernini and I think he created some of the most beautiful sculpture in the history of man. This monument to Alexander VII is one of his very good sculptures. Bernini was really a genius.
Bernini's trademark: fabric of clothing, drapes and other cloth rendered in stone or marble to appear as soft, voluminus and sumptuous as in real life. This tomb, with cherubs lifting velvety folds revealing a door under the sarcophogus leaves one wanting to touch the sculpture to make sure it isn't really velvet marble. It's one of Bernini's most impressive works.
Bernini really left his mark on St. Peter's Basilica. One of his better works here is the Monument to Alexander VII. Along with the Baldacchino, Apse and Cathedra (Chair) this is another example of Bernini's contribution this amazing church. While there is so much to see and marvel at within St. Peters, this particular monument is one worth seeking out.... More
