This was an unexpected find. We bought some food at Vopetti and walked up a nearby street. We found a beautiful neighbourhood and ate our lunch under some orange trees overlooking Rome. We also visited the Basilica of Santa Sabina - very beautiful.

Amasing views at the top of this hill as well as an orange garden well worth the walk to the top. Also soon youll be able to walk from the top to the bottom on the river side.

Lovely ruins/gardens. Quiet cool easy to walk around, get great photos BUT do this last, go to Colosseum and Forum first to avoid crowds. Then visit this area last to wind down.

This is just a important historical hill, but there are great veiws all the way to St. Peter's from the Orange Park and San Saba is an unforgettable and beautiful church. Also, go see the secret key hole!! One of my favorite off beat things to visit.

You should visit the old churches and enjoy the scenery out to the Vatican and Gianicolo, the Maltese keyhole f.e. Evening on Aventine Hill is something unforgottable

Aventine Hill is near the Forum. The main attraction is a keyhole at the Knights of Malta building where you can see St. Peter's Dome through a hedge of trees. It's a very interesting sight. It's free and the line isn't very long. My wife and I tried to get photos that represented what we saw but it didn't work... More

If you'd like a change of pace from the more major attractions and a bit of fresh air take a walk up the Aventine Hill. Next door to Circus Massimo. There are several churches to look at, as well as the pretty peek through the Knights of Malta gate keyhole to St Peter's. Two gardens provide good views over Rome;... More

Gives an interesting view of the city and worthwhile. Its also a good walk to burn off some of the excessive wine and ice cream that you are bound to consume!

So worth the walk up the hill! Make sure to stop in the orange grove park also. There is some scaffolding blocking the view and they are working on the terracing and steps up (alternate route). You look through the hole into a hedge lined path directly at St Peters. Hard to photo the view. Stop at the hotel Aventine... More

The Basilicas of Santa Sabina and Sant'Alessio are old and beautiful, and the tree-lined park on the Aventine affords a great view of the city of Rome. The view through the keyhole of the Knights of Malta is a novelty that must not be missed while you're on the Hill--view three distinct nations and a perfect angle of Saint Peter's... More
