This is very much off the beaten path, but well worth the effort to visit. It is downright beautiful and peaceful here. It is so well maintained. Reading the many different epitaphs was so interesting. There is also a cat sanctuary funded by donations. If you have seen the major attractions and want something different, this would be the place... More

This was a surprise find when we were in the Testaccio area for a food walking tour and am so glad that we saw it. When it was originally put in place, the Catholic church wanted somewhere outside the walls of the city to bury the increasing number of non-Catholic people who died whilst visiting or living in the city.... Serene. So many beautiful monuments. We spent hours there. Very well taken care of. Don't miss the fallen angel. Beautiful.

A beautifully kept cemetery with wonderful gravestones of the famous and not so well known. Take the opportunity to rest your feet and relax on one of the many benches dotted around the sun dappled cemetery. Watch the cats who are the guardians of the graves and make a donation for the upkeep of the cemetery - there is also... More

This was not on the top of our "Must See" list, but I'm so glad we did it. It was a nice respite from the bustle of Rome and all the touristy places. It's quite beautiful with lots of older graves but some surprisingly recent ones as well. Both the poets, John Keats and Percy Shelley, are buried here.

This site was on our "if we get to it" sightseeing list and I'm glad we got to it! It's a short walk from ancient rome (about 45 mins from the Ponte Fabrico) and it's a pleasant quiet walk through the working-class neighborhood of Testaccio. Just be warned that most maps (esp maps from the hotels) will not have this.... More

Our first visit here was in September 2011, and we wondered why we had never visited sooner. The peaceful feeling is profound. Many famous people are buried here, and many nonfamous as well, but the epitaphs and the stones themselves are so poignant, so beautiful. A free will offering is encouraged for the upkeep of the cemetery, and that is... More

This is a wonderful peaceful place to visit, the famous and not so famous but all with a love of Rome, some marvellous inscriptions to read and reflect upon. Lots of cats. It's easy to find, it's behind the pyramid. Metro station Pyramide or Ostiense mainline station or the number 3 tram/bus (they are working on the line so it... More

We walked from near Termini station to the cemetery, a fairly long walk but going past the Colosseum, out of the main tourist zones, and then through the local neighbourhoods is a great experience before you get there. This is a brilliant place, we spent a good few hours, looking at stones, reading about famous and not famous folk, and... More

The acatholic cemetery (means that you can find there protestant and not religious people: from Shelley to Antonio Gramsci). A really romantic place, the peaceful atmosphere is here really easy to be felt. Here rest in peace a lot of famous and not famous people who liked to be buried in the beautiful city of Rome. Actors, politicians, intellectuals, writers,... More
