I try to visit this every time I am in Munich and there is always something new and different. The coal mine is superb and can possibly freighten very young children.
Even if you are not a museum-addict you will find some places, points and exhibits of interest, i promise! But without at least two hours at your disposal, i wouldn't go there, there is simply to much to see.

A must visit place. It offers you everything from steam engines to nano technology. You need at least two days to cover everything. Visit as early as possible.
Pros: Many many interesting stuff to see. if you are a tech nerd, or not, it is worthwhile visit it and spend many many hours (I mean that a whole day is barely enough to visit half of the museum).
Cons: 1. many interactive experiments are not working, 2. most of the descriptions are only in german.

This is a fun museum. It has planes, trains, subs, cars, helicopters etc... We spent the afternoon here and really enjoyed it.
I visited the Deutsches Museum on my last day in Munich which didn’t give me enough time to see everything, so I want to back to see the rest with my Dad. I think you need 2 days for this Museum. When I showed my photos to guys at work they just went nuts over all the planes! I loved...

Took a party of 18 students, spent almost all day visiting. Most information is in English so no problems explaining everything. favourite was the electricity demonstration, but only in German and sight restricted, if you have kids get there 15min before showtime and get to the front of the fencing. If you have time take in the old music instruments....
