Cocteau was a genius and what he did inside the chapel is splendid. It was not pricey and for thirty minutes you can enjoy the art of Mr Cocteau and this is something to remember.

A must see in villefranche. Essentially a one room chapel but what a room! The figures seem to spring from the walls. Sadly no pictures but you can buy fantastic postcards. Opposite is the hotel welcome where Cocteau used to stay and is a good place for refreshment after your visit.
What a wonderful, hidden gem! I guess it's not really hidden -- it's just that you can't really know by the modest exterior of this little chapel what's inside..... Wonderful art -- contemplative -- simple, but complex... Worth the time and money to see.
It is clear that Cocteau had a great fondness for this town and its fishermen, as he incorporated representations of the people and the Citadelle of Villefranche sur Mer into his line drawings which fill this sweet little chapel. Admission is just 2 and a half euros, and the attendant will answer any questions you may have about the chapel...

This chapel is small so can be visited for a short visit, However is is better to sit and really study all the work on the walls, ceiling and door It's very beautiful. The attendant was describing all the decor in detail to two visitors and she seemed knowledgeable and approachable
If you are passing through Villefranche and visit the tiny chapel of St-Pierre and if you are taken up with Jean Cocteau's art, you might want to ask the docent about a nearby private home named Villa Santo Sospir which features a huge collection of drawings by Cocteau. She can make arrangements for a visit of this home owned by...

This tiny chapel, decorated in 1956 by Jean Cocteau with Biblical scenes interpreting the theme of Christ and the fisherman, was intended as a tribute to the fishermen of Villefranche. Strange though it may seem, the fishermen themselves were strongly opposed to the idea, as they used the Chapel as a storeroom for their nets and tackle. Fortunately Cocteau managed...

While we were ported at Villefranche, France this summer, I made an amazing discovery. There is lovely little chapel near the harbor called Chapelle Saint-Pierre which was restored and painted by Jean Cocteau. Cocteau had a love affair with the sea and mariners. He lived in Villefranche and worked on this church for over a year, covering the inside with...

The village of Villefranche is famous for several things. It's deep natural harbour, the swing of the bay and its pebbly beach, the colourful ancient village with its covered medieval streets, its sea food restaurants, the citadel from where you have stunning views over the area and the Chapel Saint Pierre. My family are from this part of France- Nice...
