Fortunately we were able to visit the cidadel as it happened to be open during work in progress and we were able to admire the magnificent view and take photographs on the wonderful sunny day. At present the citadel is closed officially until the end of June 2013 due to restoration works.

This place was undergoing some restoration when we visited, so the entry fee had been halved, because certain areas could not be accessed. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our walk around the ancient walled building, giving views of the town and the sea. There information plaques in English as well as French, so we were able to understand the history. It was... More

But discounted entry price for limited access - nice p[art of the city and great views down over the bays - definitely worth a walk and if you don't find it too morbid then a trip to the cemetry is also recommended

We stopped off at St-Tropez as part of our Mediterranean cruise. It is a beautiful little French town - much as you would expect. The highlight for us was going up to the Citadel of St-Tropez. As far as fortifications go it was pretty good but even better for the wonderful view from the top! I would recommend anyone who... More

We went to the Citadelle while visiting St. Tropez. There are stairs going up, slightly steep but not too much, or a winding road for about 2 minutes walk if you wish. You reach the top, but then you can follow the wall from the outside. You do not have to go inside. Follow the road to your left. The... More

From what we saw, not many visitors to St. Tropez climb the steps to the old fort. That's a shame, because it is impressive--under reconstruction during our July 2012 visit--and one of the quietest places in town to see the port. For photographers, it probably does offer the best vantage point close to the town to get lovely shots of... More

The citadel of St Tropez is a hidden pleasure that many people miss out on their trip to the town. It's situated on a hill (the path up can be somewhat tricky if you wear flip-flops) that you climb up to before reaching the entrance, where you pay a small fee (Eur3) to get into the castle. Once in, you're... More
