In the 11th century after the Conquest of England by Duke William of Normandy in 1066, ties with England were strong. You'll see a reference to the turbulent past above the south transept portal where sculpted scenes show the life of Thomas Becket, the Archbishop of Canterbury who was assassinated in Canterbury Cathedral on the orders of King Henry II of England. The Bayeux Tapestry was kept here from the 11th to the 18th centuries, probably displayed for the first time on the day the cathedral was consecrated in 1077 in the presence of William the Conqueror. « less

It was okay, not exciting. There are smaller churches that have more impact as well cathedrals that have more wow factor. But you do not really go to Bayeux for the cathedral.

We really enjoyed our visit to this cathedral after visiting The Tapestry. Make sure to go into the crypt and check out the theological timeline on display!

Stopped in late in the day, so the visit was abbreviated. Beautiful stained glass windows. Make time to take it all in.

It's big but not huge. You can go into the crypt which is a plus for kids looking to "do something".

Not a whole lot of commentary other than just an amazing cathedral that is worth visiting. The architecture is impressive and the detail throughout is worth the visit.

As one walks thru this glorious cathedral, you realize it is like the Notre Dame of Paris, with stories in each of the niches; the celebration of the nuns, like St Therese was important to see since they are relatively modern in our admiration. The stained glass and the stone carvings were inspirational as was the 11th Century crypt in... More

It has a very long and interesting history with some wonderful objects and artwork inside. There are lovely votive candles for sale with remembrance poppies on them which make a great souvenir of the town as it's close to where the D Day landings took place.

It is amazing that these cathedrals were built so long ago - the craftsmanship and artistry are breathtaking.
