This is such a gorgeous beach considering what it must have looked like during the war...have a look at the bunkers and the memorials on the hills above it....very nice to see while touring Normandy area...just lovely and a place to reflect on the past...

We visited Omaha Beach on a windy day in May, but still managed to walk barefoot along the beach so that our flesh could commune with the soil on which precious blood and lives were lost. It was an unforgettable experience for my husband and I. We thought of the movie, "Saving Private Ryan" and its opening scenes as we... More

This very historic part of D-Day is something you should not miss. Visiting in off-season, parking was easy and walking around nothing more than breathtaking.

This is a huge beach where the Americans landed and there are still bunkers there. There is a massive, somewhat ugly stone memorial to those who lost their lives. There are also much more artistic and discrete modern sculptures which are actually in the sand. Don't just visit this landing beach but see Canadian Bay and in particular Arromanches which... More

I couldn't believe how easy it was to access. There are bunkers and gun holds just right on the beach. It is free and unattended to walk about and experience. An excellent piece of history to enjoy. Don't miss the cemetery above the beach

this is an amazing place, so thought provoking! it is a huge beach , we visited in the winter and the weather wasnt great which made us feel all the more humble with respect with what these men did for all of us. i would recommend anyone who is interested in ww2 and the landing beaches to visit all of... This beach is big and will take a day to visit. I would recommend starting at Pointe du Hoc (Covered elsewhere) from here you have great view down on to the beach and get a feel for the scale. From here make your way down to the main beach noting the WNs (resistance points) the best are, WN72 now with... More

Visited on a freezing rainy day in March, have been before but it was the better halfs first visit and I did remind her to bring tissues. It is still hard to comprehend what happened here all those years ago, but a walk around the perfectly maintained cemetery, does make you wonder how anyone managed to survive the beach. The... More

Known in France as Omaha "la sanglante" (Omaha the bloody), this is a beach with a lot of history. As it remains very natural, with only a few homes on the beach front, one can easily imagine the D-Day landings. However, it is also a lovely recreational area. At low tide, this is a long, wide beach with fine golden... More

March 29 read Jenny McCutcheon's impressions of Omaha Beach. Go to venturegalleries.com Omaha Beach is a must-see destination for anyone traveling to Normandy France. Also known as "Bloody Omaha" the imagination is captured with the sacrifices so many young men made.
