We had looked forward to visiting this museum for it's large art collection. That's the trouble with depending on guide books! The museum closed on 11 April 2011 for "about 3 years"...
So sorry to have missed this wonderful place. The Basque Museum nearby is still open, and had lots of colourful and interesting Basque art and history as well.
The collection is unbelievable for such a small cityand hardly anybody there. gives you plenty of time to examine the works up close. Don't miss it if your in the area.
I enjoyed this pleasant art museum very much.I saw fine French Naturalist paintings by Flandrin,Leon Bonnat("Job"),Henri Achille Zo,Bougereau,and Jean Rafaelli. Other French painters well-represented were Ingres,Lepicie,Gericault,Charlemagne Oscar Guet,Armand Guillamin("Barges"),and Degas.I also saw fine Spanish paintings by the Valencian Primitive School,El Greco,Ribera,Murillo,and Goya.I also appreciated their fine Rembrandt portrait of a Rabbi and their large collection of small Rubens'paintings.At this splendid...
