This Place is surrounded by gorgeous architecture on all sides. There are tons of shops and restaurants to visit and a huge parking garage. A very ornate carousel keeps the interest of the younger ones and it's just a hop, skip and a jump over to the Cathedral.

When you do a Trip to Strasbourg, you will visit the Place Gutenberg in the Center. Very nice old Houses.
A must see.

Just walk around and get lost by purpose. Great feeling! I only missed monks, knights, and horses. The rest is still there. Great Alsace houses.

The square itself is nice but the real kick is examining the four scenes at the base of the Johannes Gutenberg statue in the middle of the square. Perhaps politically incorrect in the 21st century, the scenes depict the contributions of Gutenberg and his printing press in spreading wisdom to the four corners of the world. If you're coming to town by car, this is the best parking garage - but also the most expensive. Also, especially during peak hours (e.g. Christmas Market) it fills up quickly.
The Place itself is well laid out and central, right next to the cathedral. Tons of restaurants and cafes all around.

I'm not sure what it's like all year, but the Swiss Christmas Market in 2011 was lots of fun. This is also a good landmark by which to navigate.
