A fabulous building from the outside and although its roomy inside there didn't seem to be much to see. Some of the exhibitions were OK but there just wasn't enough on display to satisfy all of our tastes. The cafe is quite good and there are plans to extend the museum in the future. For a free visit it was... More

I was a bit disappointed with the Whitworth. From the outside it is very attractive; a lovely building next to the park however inside it has a strange, gloomy feel about it. I personally didn't find the exhibitions all that exciting, although they do change from season to season so I can't really judge it on that aspect. But when... More

Really enjoyed my visit here. In particular the John Piper paintings. Not someone I was previously aware of, but found his work and story interesting. His pictures of Wales are very atmospheric and for me was the highlight of the exhibits on show when I visited. I think the exhibits vary throughout the year, so it's worth checking beforehand. There... More

I have visited this gallery many times, usually after first finding out what is on and therefore knowing it will be of interest to me. Today with my husband I especially enjoyed John Piper's paintings, The Mountains of Wales. Paintings from their own collection were on show and also ultra modern work, which was interesting, but not to everyone's taste.... More

Whilst its a great place to take/meet family and friends i wanted time to study the surroundings of this 19th century gem in the heart of campus life. It is undergoing a significant construction facelift outside and in. the external giving emphasis to the parkland and natural setting surroundings it..exciting times await with a much more open and lighter aspect.... We visit the Whitworth most years, usually to see an exhibition by an artist we admire. In this case, John Piper, whose work from his Snowdonia years left a strong impression, helped by the background information and books etc also on display. On most visits the concurrent exhibitions have been too avant garde for a simple man like me, who... More

I love Art galleries, but the Whitworth leaves me a little cold.. The gallery is fairly small (the rooms are quite large, but there are limited works on display). It's a rather dark gallery, and, to be honest, I can find it rather depressing! There are often kids activities on, which can be distracting if you're not using them. I... More

The exhibitions were a bit strange and you need an abstract view to appreciate most of it. There were bits of what I call real art which were worth seeing
