Fascinating social history exhibits - a very enjoyable place to visit and refreshingly different to "run of the mill" museums.
A fantasic little find, interactive and recently revamped the museum itself is very smart. The content although slightly aimed towards a younger audience was interesting and engaging all while giving information about Manchesters history. All for free! A must visit in Manchester
Don't miss this one if you are in Manchester. You can easily spend at least half a day looking at the numerous exhibits, some of which are "hands on"......This was my favourite tourist attraction in Manchester.
Well worth a visit if you are interested in social history this former pump house has a excellent location and enthusiastic staff were always wiling to help. Once you've mastered the floor plan you can wander through various thematic exhibitions all of which had clear explanations aimed at a young audience. Stopped off for lunch in the café which was... A typical dumbed down museum with childish narrative and exhibits.the history of people and politics has such potential but unfortunately, this exhibition misses it.There area lot of banners and photos and dressing up stuff for kids but i wonder who that is appealing to.for example, there are doctors white coats to dress up in ( illustrating the set up of... It does what it says ... tells and shows the people's history ... is very interactive ... can also eat there ... staff very helpful ... a vibrant place ... great
A marvellous trip through the history of people's growth in democarcy and improved social conditions. Quite heavily slanted towards trade unions and the labour movement and Labour Party so perhaps some input about the Manchester philanthropists would be good to give some balance. We definitely want to go back!

As a result I was able to observe the building of the rust clad extension to what was an old pump house (listed). The first time I visited the museum was four years ago before... More
As the title says, and I don't even like politics! Considering this is a small museum, it is packed with so much information and took us a good couple of hours to get round. The buiding itself is also interesing, being an old pump house (one of the pumps can be seen at the Museum of Science and Industry).
