The castle is a pretty backdrop for a lovely park. If you have good weather you should buy some local Irish cheese and have a little picnic on the grounds.

The castle is currently undergoing renovations after being empty for sometime. The grounds are beautiful, as is the interior that has been remodeled. The collections of furniture and portraits are made even more interesting by the helpful information given freely by the delightful docents. I highly recommend stopping by!

Lots of history here. Guides stationed throughout the castle are eager to answer questions and tell you about the rooms you're visiting.

Easy to walk round with a guide book and still get the benefit of the place. The renovation carried out over the years to the structure and make it visitor friendly does detract a little from its history but it is well worth persevering with a visit. The rose garden is impressive.

This castle contains the intriguing history of the Butler family. It has been painstaking restored by the Office of Public Works from near ruin. Those working in the castle are friendly and command a vast knowledge of the castle, the restoration, and the furnishings. Also enjoyed the craft galleries across the street in the castle stables.

This castle was built soon after the Norman conquest of Ireland but has been improved upon throughout the years. It's much larger than either Bunratty or Blarney Castles. The hallways and rooms are large and well decorated. There are numerous beautiful paintings which adorn the walls of this place. The furniture is of another period and the grounds outside are... It was a lovely day out, the history of the castle was very enjoyable. The weather was a very hot day and the grounds around the castle was busy with people having picnics, it was lovely to see. Every one looked like they were enjoying themselves

The outside view of the castle doesn't give a clue to the magnificent grounds inside. This was a family home to a wealthy aristocratic family for several hundred years before it was left to the nation in a badly run-down state. Gives a great idea of how the idle rich lived in past times! There is enough to see inside... More
