I'm a farmer myself and found the tour very interesting, as it showed how my own farm may have looked around 75-100 years ago. I would have come across some of the things on display in my youth so it was nice to be able to explain to my own children how things used to be.

Visiting these farms was certainly an eye opener as to the hardships of the life of a farmer and his family. We were shown the every day chores and occurrences of farm life, and we were served a delicious homemade lunch also, This was an enlightening view of farming traditions of rural Ireland of the past.

I was lucky enough to tour the Traditional Farms on the Saturday in October when there were the harpists playing throughout in the different buildings. The depiction of three different types of Irish farms from the 1930s left a lasting impression. The costumed hostesses described the farm family's lives, answered questions, and demonstrated a home skill or prepared a daily staple of the era. Free samples were included. This tour truly took me back to a different time.

Going to Killarney with many years and never knew this fine attracion existed and I visit muckross itself three and four times a year. The farms were quite unique. You can explore each farmhouse and chat with the farmers about how life used to be. Plenty of animals to look at, as well as home cooked bread to taste.
