I really found the tour of Kilmainham Gaol, an old jail from the late 1800s and early 1900s, to be very interesting. I learned a lot about Irish history. Much of it involved this jail, and the tour guide will tell you all about it and answer any questions that you have. I think this is a great tour to... More

This is an imposing and sobering place. The tragic history for Ireland that is captured in this place is palpable. It is a must see to help place Ireland's mistrust of England into perspective.

One of the best sight seeing events while in Dublin. You feel the history as you take the tour through it.

If you want to understand Irish history, visit this chilling place. What was once a bleak, cold prison for criminals, starving children and revolutionaries is now an unofficial national monument. The gaol has a very good museum.

Probably could have gone through in about half the time but the Jail itself was quite interesting. The price was fair and it was very educational.

An excellent, illuminating tour and fine museum make this a very rewarding plunge into Irish history. This is the site where the leaders of the 1916 Easter Rising were executed by the British. The tour does full justice to their stories, but ranges more widely as well, considering the Gaol as an example of prison reform movements in the nineteenth... More

Taken round by Ben, gave good potted history of some of the more well known inmates and brief Irish history. Would have liked a little longer to take photos but another group caught ours up so we had to rush. Not gimmicky which made a change.

Visit to the prison gave us a good perspective of the Irish history. This is a must visit when you are in Dublin. The ticket price wasn't expensive either (think was under 10Euros). Keep about 2-3 hours in hand to see the prison.

This is a bit out of the way in western Dublin, but accessible by bus or tram (ask locally for directions). Visits are by guided tour only, and one waits outside for 10-15 minutes to buy a ticket, then waits in the small (but interesting) museum for the start of the tour.
