This house is a masterpiece and it's better than all the other Mackintosh buildings that can be found in the city of Glasgow. It's well worth the effort of taking the train to Helensburgh and climbing the hill to get there. The more you look, the more details you discover in the rooms. It was very hard to leave after... As a big fan of Rennie Mackintosh and his wife (who was a very talented artist in her own right) this is a very special place. This amazing house is set in a lovely location at the top of the hill overlooking the Clyde estuary and surrounded by beautiful gardens. The house itself showcases Mackintosh style at its best, the... More

Every single furnished room in this house is a delight. The longer you linger the more beautiful details emerge. Everything has been thought about, the use of light, the funtion of the rooms and so on. The Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh gesso and textiles are very special too. A complete must see gem More

A train ride from Glasgow (~30min) and a long slow climb up a hill was made good arriving at this tremendously interesting house. While the admission was as steep as the hill, it was worth it to this MacKintosh architecture and design fan with all the in-tact rooms and furniture, as well as the fine gardens and the scullery café... If you 'do' 'the House for an Art Lover', then make time to visit Hill House too. With more complete rooms it is stunning and was used as a reference point in the creation of the from CRM's original drawings. More

I'm by no means an architectural buff, but this house is such a historical masterpiece. I truly think seeing this house will make almost anyone a Rennie Mackintosh fan. There is so much to see, and the docents are very helpful...beautiful garden and lovely village of Helensburgh nearby. My kids moaned and groaned on the way, but after the tour,... More

I recently accompanied my daughter to visit this local attraction. The entrance fee was £9.00. I cannot fault the Charles Rennie Mackintosh furniture but our visit was spoiled by the staff and volunteers being so loud and intrusive. They followed us into every room and we were almost falling over them. My daughter is an Art Historian who visits galleries... More

I took my adult daughter to see this National Trust property. She was totally enthralled by the beautiful rooms and fittings. She lives in Edinburgh and tends to think the West of Scotland doesn't have a lot to offer culture wise (only half joking) but this made a major impression including the special exhibition which was running. I feel sorry... More
