Visited on a Sunday afternoon at the beginning of May. It was lovely and so relaxing after the hustle and bustle of the city. Another plus is that it's free. The palm houses were interesting even for children as you could follow the trails on the leaflets. Didn't eat in the restaurant - prices put us off, so had a... More

Beautiful trees and flowers with long walks through garden paths. The restaurant was extremely slow with service, but the gardens are well worth a look

Very average compared to RBGs in Montreal, Sydney or Wellington. I guess they don't get much of a growing season so far north. Word of warning: do NOT eat at the cafe...the food is swill.

A visit to the gardens is worth a visit. It is free to enter with a small charge if you wish to enter the glasshouses which is a must do. The best way to get there is via one of the tour buses (careful as not all buses go there. There is a restaurant (expensive) and a cafe within the... More

I really enjoyed this place when i was at high school and now I have been again with my husband and step-son! The place is full of different kind of trees, flowers and plants with some wildlife dotted around the place! Although the Gardens are free of charge, The Glasshouses were awesome as well, even for a 3year old :)... More

Free entry which is a first for me. Fantastic location on a hill overlooking the city. You can take a picnic as there are plenty of places to sit & watch the 'World go by'.

We loved what we saw of the gardens...and the glass houses. the weather was really wet so we didn't see as much as we would have liked. We stopped listening to the audio tour in the glass houses because it was just too detailed. Sometimes you just want an overview. We will definitely go back when the sun is out. The... More

The gardens themselves are just beautiful, and on the day we went the glasshouses were free to enter (the rest of the gardens are always free). It felt like paradise, really (being the one sunny day that week). The John Hope restaurant was very pricey, though, and although I ordered my bacon crispy it definitely wasn't. There were strange rules... More

My wife is from Edinburgh and this is one of her most favourite places worldwide, particularly when the Rhododendrons and Azaleas are in bloom. The new visitor centre is excellent and as a centre of botanical expertise the gardens have few peers. It is a great place to spend a couple of hours - even if, like me, you are... More
