There's always something a little different to see here but to be honest the bar, food and general atmosphere makes this a place worth visiting.
My husband drags me here all the time but I don't know why I resist. Its a great atmosphere and has some fantastic movies Plus you can take a glass of wine or a beer into the movie if you want which is always a bonus!
Had a good trip to the venue during the film festival to see the surprise movie. Nice little venue, big enough but still had a traditional feel about it. They coped with a surprise wheelchair well and were very helpful to make sure I could still have a seat. Will visit again.
Loved our visit to the Filmhouse, it was great to see an independent doing so well. The foyer could've been a little more customer friendly though, but the staff were very helpful and more than made up for the overwhelming clutter and indistinct signage. The Cafe bar had a welcoming atmosphere but was a little grubby around the edges and... More
The Filmhouse cafe is in dire need of a makeover. It is dated, dark and depressing. The carpet is disgusting and must be filthy it has been there so long. The tables and chairs are horrible. Why are there no old film posters decorating the walls? The menu, although actually quite good, hasn't changed in years and really needs a... More
Been a few times , great Films and a really nice cafe , not too cheap but good food , the booze aint too cheap either but the tea and coffee are reasonably priced , You often get a chance to see films that are not mainstream, its also good place to take a first date really .
The Filmhouse is an excellent cinema to go and see Indie films and less mainstream pap that's shown in the big cinema complexes. The bar is full of mainly middle-class, liberals which can get very stuffy and claustrophobic - no windows alas but plenty of hot air. This cinema is a part of Edinburgh's heritage; I remember going to see... More
The Filmhouse is a really excellent independent cinema that always has an interesting selection to choose from - it's usually a mixture of one or two new major releases, one or two independent/world cinema choices, and the odd classic thrown in too. I've been there for Hitchcockian classics, to French romcoms, to the premiere of Django Unchained - it's a... More
Attended the Borgen Q&A, had a wonderful time. Staff, venue and services are great. Also have a wonderful DVD collection for sale. Definitely visit again next time I'm in town.
