This review is in relation to the cafe/bar only. It is a few years since we visited the theatre for a drama production (always a top quality experience when we do so) but on a daytime visit this is our preferred lunch venue. The surroundings are congenial, the food is top quality and it matches the 'prestige' venues in this... More

York Theatre Royale is home to one of the UK's longest running traditional pantomimes that has been running with the same iconic dame (Berwick Kayler) for over 30 years. This ensures that they sell 97% of the tickets over a 3 month run which virtually subsidises the rest of the year for the Theatre. There is a mixed bag of... More

I went on a whim and lucked out on getting a returned ticket. I'm glad I did. Super theatre and a fun production. It was my first time at opera and the singing being in english was a great help. I really did enjoy myself.

We love the Theatre Royal and it's old world feel. York's original theatre, it has a nice feel to it and even the storiies of the 'Grey Lady' -the resident ghost, are somehow believable. Great pantomime by one of York's favourites is a treat not to be missed and the theatre has a good year round programme which suits all... More

The ease and accessibility of using this theatre was brilliant. We were impressed with the modern layout at the front of this theatre and the efficiency of the box office and also the bars at the intervals. We had a very enjoyable evening.

Being fans of theatre. We would have like to have seen the inside of this old theatre. While we understand that this is not possible during rehersals the place is never open to visitors to view. What a missed opportunity, we were quite happy to pay a couple of pounds for the pleasure. When we said it could be a... More

Visit here every year to see the Panto. Large bar area for meeting prior to performance, although it gets very packed.

Pre-theatre food excellent value with plenty of seating. We went to see The 39 Steps which was hilarious and excellently produced. The theatre itself wasn't particularly big but had plenty of atmosphere. We heard it was going to be closed soon for refurbishment but personally it certainly didn't look as if it needed it to us. We had a wonderful... More
