It is ideal for anyone interested in history or anyone who simply enjoys great storytelling. Travel through time as you experience the history of Viking York, the principal city of Viking England. The Walk starts with the Viking invasion of York in 866 when Ivar the Boneless defeated the Saxons. The Walk continues along some of York's famous Viking streets before moving onto the reign of Eric Bloodaxe, York's most aptly named Viking king! The Walk concludes with the events of 1066 when two of the three battles that decided the fate of England (and the Vikings) were fought in or near York. The Guide is Simon Grey - best known for his bestselling children's books, The Last Vikings and The Return of Sigurd the Dragon Slayer. « less

My husband doesn't like tours but I booked this anyway. So glad I did, otherwise we would have visited York and thought what beautiful buildings and that is it! Simon made York come alive. He is definately passionate and knowledgeable about York and the Vikings and this comes through in his tour. I normally find history boring, but this was... More

My partner and I did this after a recommendation from my parents. it lasted about an hour and a quarter which for £5 and adult, £3 for students and children is fantastic value for money. There were about 20 people in the group and the guide Simon had each and every one enthralled. The walk was very interesting and even... More

A thrilling and informative journey through York's Viking history. Simon's walk is very different to the numerous ghost walks that York has to offer as it provides lots of fun and educational content. An ideal compliment to the Jorvik centre and a must for fans of the Horrible Histories series. We joined the walk as part of a small group... More

My colleagues and I took part in the walk as part of our team Xmas party celebrations, (before copious eating and drinking of course) and can't recommend enough! This guy really knows his stuff and delivers it in an inspirational and characterful way - no gory details spared!! Given that I have lived in York for 8 years I was... More

S.P. Grey guides his "Viking Walk" at 6pm every Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, meeting up at the back of All Saints Church (opposite Marks and Spencers) in the city centre. Cost is £5 for adults and £3 for children and the walking tour lasts a little over an hour. I'm currently reading Grey's book "The Last Viking" with my... More

We met the guide and a few other guests at the meeting point, not too far from the Jorvik centre and immediately we were welcomed by the guide who explained a little about what the walk would be about and how long it would take. Instantly, we were informed that the meting point itself was the site of one of... More

The guide really knew his stuff and kept us all entertained with some great (and gory) viking stories. At £5 for just over an hours entertainment, I thought this was good value for money and I will definitely be recommending it to my friends. More
