There are numerous exhibits by Banks and the artists who accompanied him on his many voyages in order to capture the botanical species on paper. This was a fascinating museum with lots of information about Captain Cook. The museum is based in the building where Cook was apprenticed and lived. The old maps were especially interesting. Well worth a visit.
An unplanned visit to this museum made our day in Whitby. The museum attendants were the kindest, most thoughtful people and made the experience one to remember for all the right reasons.
The exhibits and house itself are kept in first class condition. Lots of information, original documents and portraits beautifully displayed.

My boyfriend and I went to the museum on a day trip to Whitby. We spent nearly 3 hours in! There is a lot to see and a lot to read. It's very interesting, but you need to have quite a bit of time in order to appreciate it.
Great to get a flavour of Capt Cook's life. The Museum displayed inovation in setting the scene of the journey to the Pacific
We've been meaning to visit for ages and were very glad that we did, some rooms are set out as they would have been in Cooks day and others have models and artifacts. Sign up as a taxpayer and your ticket lasts for 12 months!
The house in itself was lovely to go round but unless you want to spend a lot of time reading then give it a miss but I do not see what more they could do really
