This is an early waggon way bridge for transporting coal to tyneside, a good picnic area, with a steam train railway that runs by. I must add that this railway is a very short run about three quarter of a mile. I have not used it, but it is a popular venue.

Well worth a visit if you are in the area. Parking is free and there is a small cafe and picnic tables on site. There is a disabled access to the bridge along the road side of the railway track. Do not forget to take your camera to take photos of this beautiful railway arch that is the oldest in...

Anyone visiting the North East of England with an interest in the history of the Industrial Revolution really should visit Causey Arch, tucked away in the countryside near Stanley, County Durham. Its current tranquil and deeply rural location belies the fact that the waggonway which is carried over this bridge was once a major artery of the early coal industry....
