The big plus of Killhope is that the team that look after the site are very knowledgeable and very keen on sharing their knowledge with their visitors. For a family this makes a superb day out. The mine trip underground maybe cold, wet and drak-but it is the highlight for the kids-as is the panning for minerals afterwards. For a... More

This was an enjoyable day out with my grand children, and as an ex miner I found it interesting, drawback is it is well out of the way. Dont forget to take your wellies a lot of water to go through about 6 inches deep, they do have wellies on site but I think its better with your own. This place... More

Used to be superb a few years back, home cooked and served by lovely staff. Last time the food was stale, and we felt a little ill afterwards. A real shame, it was a nice stopping off point for a hot bacon sarnie whilst touring the dales (no need to visit the museum) More

Killhope is one of the best tourist attractions in the north of England and offers something for all age groups. Despite the name, there's much more to this place than mining though that is the main focus of the attraction. There are lovely scenic woodland walks where you can still see red squirrels, fun trips down the mines and a... More

I hadn't been to Killhope for about 20 years or maybe more. It has grown so much as an attraction since then. Well worth a special trip. Dress warm as most of the exhibits and buildings are outside. You can also go down the mine which is cold and damp, and gives a good idea of the working conditions the... More

Visited in late July - been before but it's always good. New pricing means you pay once and your ticket is valid for a year - excellent value. Didn't bother with the trip down the mine - been there, done that - the sun made a rare appearance so we didn't want to miss it !! Found lots of galena... More

Killhope is an ideal place to fill in a few hours. The museum is great, with well trained, interesting and friendly staff throughout. It also has attractions to keep everyone busy - from hands on activities for kids (and adults) and a historic site for adults to explore. Durham county council have made great efforts to make the site appeal... More

I had no idea this place was even here before a friend recommended it, and I am glad he did! This was a great day out for me and my little girl. Reasonably priced, lots to do (for me too as well as her), and weighted on the educational side without making it appear so, this is an excellent place... More
