Being a great Thomas Hardy fan, I don't know if I had built up my expectations about the place. The outside of the cottage and the gardens were lovely, but the inside looked a bit bleak. More

Visiting Hardy's family home is putting yourself in direct contact with everything that was important to him. The National Trust keep this place immaculate. Wonderfull walks all around. Beautifull location. More

Owned by the NT now so opening times vary considerably. Not much to see but worth a visit if you're a TH fan. Lovely walks through the woods. More

Loved it. There were Blue Badge advisors there who gave us a very interesting talk about Hardy's grandparents, his relationship with his parents, Hardy's education and what he was like before he became a writer. It was fascinating visit and I would love to go back to the cottage the next time with my children. More

If you are a hardy fan like me, this is a must. I didn't even enter it as it was November when I visited and it was closed! But take the walk through the woods and come round the back of the historic cottage. Then take the dirt road back out, past greenwood cottage. It might not be worth your... More
