I just love it here. The gardens the grounds the abbey just everything spend hours here just wandering stopping for coffee and lunch and its 20 mins fron my house. Perfect
I have lived in the area all my life & have only just found this gem. It is under going a major renovation but please don't let that put you off. The abbey & grounds are very well maintained, the food served in the "café" is all local very tasty but don't expect a "posh coffee". you can sit outside... More
A fascinating abbey, in the midst of major renovation work. Exploring the inside felt like being in the midst of the TV series “The Pillars of the Earth”. The stained glass alone, made the visit worthwhile, with a mixture of traditional and very modern. Normally, I find abbeys, cathedrals, castles etc. all very similar. This one, however, stood out for... More
Very good counter service food, with loads of choice and a home cooked feel. Big thumbs up for the pasties.
First the Grange restaurant, very good value, lovely meat pasty with proper meat inside it. Saw a few having Sunday Roast, which looked fab, great plateful piled high with veg and big Yorkshire pud. The abbey is undergoing a bit of a referb, but still worth a look, such a peaceful, spiritual place.
Use back from a lovely afternoon at the abbey, they are in the middle of restoring some of the abbey so couldn't see it all but it's still beautiful, the gardens were all in full autumn bloom so colours were amazing, shop was well stocked with loads of gifts, we ate lunch in the restaurant and the food was all... Despite being like a canteen this restaurant has a lovely feel to it. The food, wholesome and simple has never disappointed and is inexpensive. We shared the meringue desert, which was scrummy.
The restoration work is almost complete, this must be one of the most beautiful Abbey s I have ever seen, the workmanship is superb, and the glass windows are a sight to behold. The grounds have gardens and modern sculpture which only enhance the visit. I will come back next year to see the finished work I'm Glad they have... More
The grounds and the buildings are lovely. Restoration work spoils the main chapel but I am sure it will be worth it. Nice little cafe for a snack plus a full on restaurant. A nice few hours visit. The earlier dog owner should not have to boycott she should be banned.
