When we visited early on a Saturday we were fortunate that the lady vicar was there and able to show us some of the fine features of St Margaret’s. Beautiful stained glass windows, one of which was most unusual and without the inside info, I’m sure would have gone unnoticed. Not giving anything away here - go and find out for yourself!
Interesting churchyard built into old terraces.

Well worth a visit. The stained glass windows are lovely, many in different styles.
Beautiful ceilings and carvings.
Free tea and coffee on offer which I thought was a lovely gesture.
A warm community feel is apparent.

This Norman church is over a thousand years old. Unlike many of it’s contemporaries it is very well attended by the local congregation probably because it has a good vicar who gives interesting sermons. The graveyard is now becoming rather full and burials do not take place very often. After a Sunday service it is nice to visit the Cat Inn and round off your visit with a good meal which I have reviewed before.

I acted here many years ago when the church celebrated it millennium. Our group performed murder at the cathedral. It was a little weird coming back, but this old church is worth a visit. It is very well kept, and is undergoing a lot of restoration work.

Fabulous old church from the 1600's. Interesting iron gravestones inside dating back to when ironworks were present in the area. Unusual terraced graveyard at the rear!

A lovely little church with a huge grave yard. Lots of history and great for a peaceful walk or just to sit and think.

I was visiting the Cat Inn and arrived early.
What a treat it was for me to enter this church for quiet reflection. It has been well appointed with light sensors which gave an immediate warm welcome. The layout of the comfortable chairs was inspiring. There is lots of interesting history to ponder upon.
What a lucky village to have such a gem. Also my thanks to those who care for the place and look after it so well. Good luck in your development plans, you deserve it.

This Grade 1 listed church dates from Norman times and is beautifully maintained. Interior features include a 12th century font, medieval wall-painting and some cast-iron gravestones. The extensive churchyard is on several levels down the hillside behind the church, and was full of wild flowers when we came. There are fine views across the valley and south, towards the downs.
The nearby Priest House (not connected with the church) is also worth a look.
