This is the old capital of Hoysala Empire....and this temple is a fine example of the immense talent of the sculptors of the Hoysala empire. The temple's statues and carvings are more detailed than of the Belur Temple and this is a much older temple. Don't forget to hire a guide to enrich your experience and there is a museum... More

The temple has some awesome sculptures all around the outside walls. The architectural works on the roof inside the temple are worth watching. Beside it also has an architectural museum inside the same area. Should visit that.

Astounding for its wealth of sculptural details. The walls of the temple are covered with an endless variety of depictions from Hindu mythology, animals, birds and Shilabalikas or dancing figures.

On our 2-1/2 week Southern India trip, focusing on Chola temples and bronzes, Halebid was, for me, the most beautiful temple we visited. Although small, it is an absolute gem, with detailed carvings lovelier than the best of the temples around Angkor Wat. The hundreds of carved elephants around the base of the temple, and the two Nandis (of a... More

Loved the sculptures. What magnificient work by the artisans of that period. Hats off. The filigree work and the depth of the sculpting on the stones was just brilliant. If you love sculptures and architecture, definitely plan a trip to Hassan.

Old Capital of Hoysala empire . Dwarasamudra is the old name. Hired a guide who took us through the Hoysaleshwara temple complex . One can find many carvings from Kurukshetra war episodes , Mahabarath. The old palace complex are destroyed by invaders of the 14th century and only few important monuments remain . But nevertheless a place worth the visit.... More
